“One of the things I preach is optimism and about being optimistic. This is different from being positive, this is different from being positive and definitely not being naïve. A lot of people think that optimism is naive. it’s not.
Optimism is not the denial of reality. Positivity is about saying things are good when they are not. “ everything’s fine here! Everything is good, there’s nothing to see here!” And we just don’t need that right now.
Optimism is the belief that the future is positive. Times are tough right now. They are rough, uncertain, stressful and hard circumstances, but we will get through them and we will get through them together. that’s what optimism is.
It is not denial of what it is and it is not pretending that what is happening right now is good. It is the fundamental belief that there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are heading through that light. Be optimistic, we will get through this together, take care of yourself, and take care of others.”Simon Sinek,
International Author and Speaker
I developed Modern Relationships Daily and my Instagram content @optimistic_mft on these very principles.
Simon Sinek is one of the most popular author’s and motivational speakers with an emphasis on relationships and connection, with super inspiring content. I thought that it was critical for me to include this article that defines optimism and spreads awareness in a supportive get authentic way. In “self help culture”, optimism tends to be confused with positivity and loses it’s value.
Let’s honor optimism. More specifically, let’s honor the power of therapeutic optimism. The concept that an optimistic mindset can create connection and support in face of hard circumstances.
